The Power of Yes!

January 24, 2013 By Bill Tenny-Brittian

originally published at EffectiveChurch.com It always amazes me how much talk a church can do and still accomplish nothing. Sure, sometimes the discussion gets to yes, but far too often the NO comes about because too much time has passed. Too much talk and not enough do. I suppose that's why the book Action Trumps Everything by Len Schlesinger, president of Babson College resonated with me. The book, written for business, has an almost Nike-esque: Just Do It, or more precisely, Just Do Something aspect. As is typical, his big idea issn't particularly new, though there were some innovative nuances. But then it didn't come from some great think tank either. It came from close … [Read More...]

Research on Clifton StrengthsFinder and Personal Evangelism

How can Christians do personal evangelism in a way that’s empowering? Through-out my 33 years of ministry, I’ve observed how many Christians struggle in the area of personal evangelism. Some feel inadequate and others are fearful. Another reason shared with me is that some say “I don’t have the spiritual gift of evangelism.” Research done [...]

Book Review: Got Style?

By Bruce Laverman

Book Review: Got Style? Personality-based Evangelism Jeffrey A. Johnson,  Judson Press, 168 pp., 2009. What if someone wrote a well-balanced book on doing evangelism that is both biblically and theologically sound, while providing an inclusive process for implementing the “e” word in today’s post-modern church? What if this person were to illustrate this book with stories [...]

By Bruce Laverman

A medium-sized mainline church in a suburb you won’t recognize has been personally impacted and passed on naturally an experience with God that has blessed both the church and the community.  Now that’s a blessed church!  No. it’s not a mega-church, and no, it’s not in a booming area, and no, it’s not famous, but [...]

The New Evangelism, Revisited

||This article was originally posted at LandonWhitsitt.com and reprinted here with the author’s permission.|| Last January, I offered a few thoughts on what a “New Evangelism” might look like. In that post, I cribbed the ideas from a documentary I had watched aboutinfluencers, asking if the church could reframe its thinking on evangelism in light of [...]

The Seven Fields of Mission

I have two learnings from my work with evangelism and mission: Evangelism belongs inside of mission. We all live in at least seven mission fields each day – home, work, the local community, the wider world, leisure, spiritual health, and the church’s life and outreach. Only a few are front and center daily but all [...]
